My central idea is becoming uniquely normal, an exploration of having to conform to societal norms for cooperation. I have focused on my personal experience as well as the general opinions of people to form a piece that illustrates the dynamic at different levels.
Image 1 shows my first testing of the idea I eventually settled on. I wanted to capture the process and in depth layered dynamic of pretending to be a “Normal” to society while also showing society's reaction to each level of the abnormal. Images 2 and 3 are the core of the project. The core is a damaged and scorched entity which is connected by what traits make them through the wires. Image 2 is a blank layer, a buffer or shield from the outside. Image 4 and 5 show my process of constructing and iterating on the next piece or layer. Images 6 and 7 show those layers that I worked on, each in their semi-final states. Finally, Image 8 would show my finished piece in its entirety but instead shows most as it has been difficult to obtain materials with the pandemic. Hence, image 9 shows a rendering of what I hoped for my piece, to be a fascinating artwork yet something hard to notice.
