My work addresses the disconnect between the arts and sciences by demonstrating how there is an exchange of creativity in both disciplines. The initial plan was to control bacterial growth in order to form designs. Due to COVID-19, I had no access to the lab and was limited from using proper tools. Image 1 depicts the process of placing homemade agar-bases in the fridge to prevent condensation. Image 2 is another process image of an experiment that helped me determine which pH the bacteria was most compatible with. Images 6-8 portray my attempts to isolate the colonies. Despite the belief that “bigger is better,” I think that a sense of wonder can be found in small things as well. Images 9-10 are my taxidermy pieces, which I used as creative outlets to solidify my knowledge of biology through dissections. Curiosity is the cornerstone of both artistic freedom and scientific inquisition. However, a polarization between the two fields promotes the idea that art is exclusively for creativity while science is exclusively for exploration. Is there a middle-ground between them? Yes; Van Gogh and Einstein both used their respective fields to describe the world around them.
